40 Years of Audio Genesis
Audio Genesis’ original location in Balmain
In the blink of an eye, Audio Genesis turns 40.
In this time there has been:-
10 years’ worth of long weekends spent driving to Adelaide and Melbourne,
Surprisingly high number of trips to the red sand of Karratha, Western Australia,
Countless trips across greater NSW (plus unintended detours onto various dirt roads),
And navigating Sydney without a map*, excluding the Warringah freeway.
*As a last resort, please reach for the 1999 printed street directory located under the driver's seat.
Audio Genesis opened in Balmain on 1st August 1985 with two demo rooms and blessings from hi-fi connections in South Africa and a few manufacturers to (slowly) start making moves in the community as a local home audio specialist.
By the 2000 Sydney Olympics, with the support of our expanding number of regulars, we outgrew this space and moved to a larger location in Pyrmont to provide an in-store listening experience that can better replicate a listener's personal space before a home demonstration.
Over the years, we've had the opportunity to represent many quality hi-fi brands, even briefly expanding to home theatre before returning to our passion in two-channel systems with the tried-and-tested brands that we specialise in today.
As enthusiasts ourselves, we have also heard the difference of technology innovations in the home audio space, often side-by-side with our customers and mirroring their surprise.
With a challenge to name only three:-
Linn's Lingo power supply in 1990: Replaced the Valhalla and introduced the ability to easily enjoy 45 RPM records with the press of a button. It also significantly improved the pitch and dynamics by moving the (noisy) power circuit outside of the turntable and ensuring consistent speed that improves both 33 1/3 and 45 RPM. A necessary upgrade.
Linn's Sub-Chassis: A surprising addition to this shortlist. A staple upgrade to make your Sondek LP12 even more stable for the needle to more accurately track the record grooves.
Naim's 300 Series: The newcomer. We continued to be impressed by the musicality it brings out of the tracks, both with the NSS 333 streamer and any analogue source.
We have been honoured to be the place that countless music lovers have chosen to support with bringing music to life in their homes.
Thank you.
Many more years to come.
